Picasso was about to celebrate his seventieth birthday when, solicited by the city Vallauris, he gave himself the opportunity of drawing a fresco measuring 3,73 m long and 1,80 m high–12 ft. 2 7/8 in. and 5 ft. 10 7/8 in. This was The Knight Arriving in which we can easily see the characteristic stroke of the Spanish genius. Indisputably, this is a beautiful work, fresh, joyful; the painter decided to make it smaller and print 350 copies in the Parisian workshop owned by Fernand Mourlot, his official lithograph as well as for the greatest artists spending time in Paris in the middle of the 20th century.
This proof still have at the back the origin of its first buyer: the Galerie 65 in Cannes. Assuredly numbered under the supervision of the printer, it has in the bottom right-hand corner Picasso’s signature.
