Alongside Albert Decaris, Edy Legrand was seen as one of the main illustrators of the 20th century. The great authors he illustrated are countless: from Dante to Shakespeare, from Goethe to Malraux and Camus. But meeting Pierre Bonnard pushed him to develop an authentic painter’s work; he is now seen as a great orientalist. His works are prized by collectors, his Tunisian period paintings sold for as much as 378 494 € in 2011.
