Georges Perec dedicated his Alphabet pour Stämpfli to himand Pierre Cabanne explained: “man invented the wheel, Stämpfli painted it.” This is who the Swiss Peter Stämpfli is, born in Deisswil in 1937: a worldwide renowned painter who keeps multiplying exhibitions around the world since 1966 around the theme of tire imprints. A part of his work may obviously be admired in the Stämpfli Foundation which opened a beautiful contemporary art museum in 2011 in Sitges in Spain.
