Speedy Graphito (born in 1961)
Do we need to reiterate the place given over the years by the Centre Cristel Éditeur d’Art to a certain Gudmundur Gudmundsson, better known as Erró? This explains the place it now gives to a certain Olivier Rizzo, the official name of an artist applauded worldwide under the iconic features of Speedy Graphito Because everyone can attest to it, and our dear Erró first: a strength, a signature! A sense of provocation, but also a sense of harmony, which enabled this former student of the École Estienne to make his mark very early on.
Let’s be clear: urban territory and suburban territory, since Speedy Graphito has been one of the stars and champions of street art since the 80s He was joined by Miss Tic, Jef Aérosol and Blek le rat, to only name three. Pseudonyms designed to put the notables to flight, but capable of profoundly renewing the history of art, as Erró had predicted. Now Speddy Graphito, the man of signs and colors, is here: an official figure, a popular figure. A kind of example of art in the 21st century, invited at once, or in turn, to enter the museums and take to the streets. It’s worth noting that the market, which has long been cautious, is now following suit: since February 2016, a work by Speedy Graphito has fetched up to €37,700 at auction.
